One of the biggest advantages to purchasing a pre-owned luxury vehicle is getting a car or SUV equipped with premium luxuries, but at a lower price than a new model. However, there are some cutting-edge technologies that only appear in the latest models. One of these is AcuraWatch. This suite of driver assistance features on Acura vehicles can help drivers stay alert and aware of changing road conditions. But can you get AcuraWatch on a used vehicle? That depends on the year and model.
Four Acura Vehicles Honored for Safety
Each year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety reviews every new model and rates them accordingly depending on their level of safety. There are six vehicles in the Acura lineup, and four of them can be found at the top of IIHS-rated vehicles for the 2017 model year. The 2017 Acura MDX earned TOP SAFETY PICK+ for the fourth year in a row. The 2017 RDX also received the same rating when equipped with available AcuraWatch.
When Was AcuraWatch Introduced?
AcuraWatch was first introduced in 2014 on the 2015 Acura TLX compact luxury sedan. This system included collision mitigation and pedestrian detection. Some other features available with this AcuraWatch at that time include blind-spot detection, lane departure warnings and lane-keeping assistance, and road departure mitigation, all of which could help keep vehicles securely on the road.
Usually, it takes two to three years for a vehicle to move into pre-owned inventory. Our current used Acura inventory includes 2014 models, just one year away from the first AcuraWatch introduction.
Safety Features on Pre-Owned Acura Models
Even before the introduction of AcuraWatch, Acura vehicles were on the front of safety technology. Blind-spot protection and a rearview camera are two safety advantages available in our current inventory. Whether drivers are trying to pass safely on the highway, or just want to get out of a tight parking space without an incident, many Acura vehicles come equipped with the technology to help them out.
